Anointing of the Sick

"By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ."

- Catechism of the Catholic Church #1499

Anointing of the Sick is available for anyone who suffers from serious or chronic physical or emotional illness or who struggles with the infirmities of age, even if they are not life-threatening.

Those scheduled for surgery or a hospital stay may also call the Parish Office or speak to a priest before entering the hospital.

The sacrament may be celebrated at church, in a home, hospital, or nursing home.

Ste. Genevieve Parish celebrates the Anointing of the Sick communally in February with an Anointing of the Sick Mass.
